How to Use the Search

Finding what you need, fast and across boards, is easy with the powerful search in piplanning.io.

Updated yesterday

Whether you're tracking a sticky note, looking for a dependency, or scanning across multiple boards, our search makes it seamless.

Opening the Search

You can open the search at any time via the top navigation on the left. This will slide open the search side-panel on the left of your screen and change the top navigation into a secondary tool bar for the search.

How the Search Works

The search engine doesn’t just look at your current board, it scans across all boards you have access to. Here’s how results are shown:

  • Top of the list: Results found on your current board

  • Below that: Results from other boards

Matching sticky notes on your board are highlighted, making them easier to spot.

Clicking on a result:

  • Zooms in on the sticky note (pulled from the wall) so it’s easy to read.

  • If the result is on another board, you’ll be navigated to that board automatically.

What You Can Search By

You can search by a wide variety of fields to narrow down your results:

  • Text (any content on the sticky note)

  • ALM ID (linked ID from Jira, Rally, or Azure DevOps)

  • Sticky Note Type (e.g., Feature, Story, Risk, Dependency)

  • Stickers (visual tags on sticky notes)

  • Iterations

  • Assignee

  • Creator

  • Team

  • Status Classes (e.g., To Do, In Progress, Done)

Advanced Search for Dependencies

When searching for sticky notes of type (Function) Dependency, you can refine your results even further:

  • Linked / Not Linked – See whether the dependency is connected to a Feature.

  • Incoming / Outgoing – Filter based on direction of the dependency (You must filter for a Team to see the Incoming / Outgoing option).

Pro Tip

Use the search during PI Planning or PI Execution to quickly align on what's missing, what's blocked, or what needs follow-up, even across multiple teams and boards.
