How to access the Flow Predictability Graph
To access the ART-level or Team-level Flow Predictability graphs:
Navigate to either the ART Planning Board or Team Board for either ART-level or Team-level Flow Predictability metrics respectively.
Click on the ART Metrics or Team Metrics (respectively) menu icon in the top-left of the navigation bar
Click on the ART Predictability or Team Predictability tab to navigate to the Flow Predictability graph
How Flow Predictability is Calculated
Step-by-Step Calculation Process
Assigning planned Business Value (BV): During the PI Planning Event, business owners assign a value (1–10) to each PI Objective based on business value, not story points.
Filter Committed vs. Uncommitted (Stretch) PI Objectives: Sum the planned Business Value (BV) for all committed PI objectives. Do not include Uncommitted (Stretch) Objectives in the BV total total.
Assigning Actual Business Value (ABV): At the Inspect & Adapt (I&A) workshop, business owners assign a value for how much of the objective was actually delivered. Toggle on Execution Mode in the PI Session to see the Actual Business Value (ABV) field in the PI Objectives, and assign the value during the I&A workshop.
Calculate Total ABV: Sum the Actual Business Value achieved for all PI Objectives, including both Committed and Uncommitted (Stretch) PI Objectives if they have an ABV value assigned. Include the Uncommitted PI Objectives that were completed.
Divide and Calculate Percentage: Divide the total ABV by the total BV and multiply by 100.
How to Interpret Flow Predictability Metrics
80% – 100%: Highly predictable and healthy ART or Team/s.
Below < 80%: Indicates over-committing, lack of focus or alignment in the planned work, or unforeseen complexity/risks/dependencies.
Over > 100%: Suggests under-committing, the team may be taking too little risk and could commit to more value.
Note: Flow predictability is considered a lagging indicator, designed for continuous improvement in planning rather than punishment for missing targets.
