Zoom, Pan & Multi-Select

Navigate boards efficiently. Zoom in/out, move around, and select multiple items with ease.

Updated this week

Mastering navigation and selection tools helps keep your focus sharp, whether you’re reviewing a team board or aligning with ART-level deliverables.

Choose Your Input Device: Mouse, Trackpad, or Auto

First things first - set your input device for the best experience.

  1. Click on your Profile / Avatar

  2. Open the Board Settings

  3. Select your Input Device

piplanning.io adapts seamlessly to your preferred input style — whether you’re using a mouse, trackpad, or touchscreen. Here's how it works:

  • Auto mode detects your device type and switches navigation behaviors accordingly.

  • Mouse mode lets you pan by right-clicking and dragging, and zoom with the scroll wheel.

  • Trackpad mode enables two-finger scroll to pan and pinch gestures to zoom.

Choose Trackpad mode if you like two-finger scroll + pinch, and Mouse mode if you prefer scroll-wheel zooming. Or simply rely on Auto for hassle-free switching.

Zoom In & Out

Zooming keeps you in control of detail or overview:

  • Mouse wheel or trackpad pinch: Smoothly zoom in and out centered on your cursor.

  • Keyboard shortcuts:

    • Windows: Ctrl + +, Ctrl + -

    • Mac: + +, + -, + 0

  • Zoom Buttons: Use the zoom buttons in the Board Utilities tool bar

Pan (Move around the board)

Easily move your view to explore:

  • Click-and-drag with the hand tool (Spacebar to toggle).

  • Arrow keys nudge the view slowly for fine-tuned repositioning.

  • Space + drag offers quick, temporary pan mode.

Multi-Select Sticky Notes

Efficiently work with groups of sticky notes:

  • Click + drag to draw a selection rectangle (lasso-select).

  • Shift + click (Win) / ⌘ + click (Mac) adds specific items to your selection.

When multiple items are selected, you can do the following bulk actions:

  • Align Horizontally

  • Distribute Horizontally

  • Align Vertically

  • Distribute Vertically

  • Line up in a grid

  • Link

  • Share

  • Delete

  • Undo (only usable for alignment actions)
